BJP: Muslim reservation against law
Hyderabad: The TS BJP has stepped up its stir against the state government’s decision to extend 12 per cent reservations to Muslims, terming it as “unconstitutional and against the interests of existing BC communities”.
Telangana state BJP president K. Laxman, MLC N. Ramachander Rao and others launched a signature campaign against what the party termed “Reservations based on religion” at Bagh Lingampally in Hyderabad. “We have collected about six lakh signatures in Hyderabad and other parts of the state so far. We launched the campaign earlier in the districts. We strongly oppose reservations based on religion. The Chief Minister is using the Muslim appeasement card to divert the attention of people following non-implementation of many poll promises and other problems facing the state,” Dr Laxman said.
He said the BJP would submit a memorandum along with signatures to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan with a request not to allow reservations based on religion. Mr Ramachander Rao said that since the Constitution doesn’t permit reservations based on religion, TRS, and earlier other parties, circumvented the law and created new BC E category.
