Kerala: Law department to vet report on academy land
Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan on Wednesday asked the law department to look into the legal aspects of the recommendations submitted by revenue principal secretary P.H. Kurian on the land belonging to the Kerala Law Academy Law College.
Mr Chandrasekharan told Deccan Chronicle that the report needed the scrutiny of the law department also. The further course of action would be taken on the basis of the inputs from the law department, he said. The law department was looking into the structure made to the governing council of the trust running the law academy after the land was assigned to it in 1984.
Mr Chandrasekharan has also submitted a note to Registration Minister G. Sudhakaran urging him to seek information from the registration department to ascertain whether any amendment was made to the trust bylaw to incorporate changes to the governing council. The report by the revenue principal secretary had recommended the takeover the six acres of 11.49 acres of land on the college premises which was not utilised for education purpose under rule 8(3) of the Kerala Land Assignment (KLA) Act. The report which pointed out that the gate and the private path to the academy campus were on puramboku land wanted the demolition of the gate. The report has asked district administration to take over the building on the campus which housed the restaurant and the cooperative bank, as it was constructed in violation of the agreement with the government.
