Excitement peaks as stage set for Formula E race
Hyderabad: Eleven teams. 22 drivers. 2.8-km long track. 18 turns. And, 20,000 cheering spectators. The stage is set for the Indian debut of the Formula E race on February 11 with the City of Pearls hosting Round 4 of Season 9 alongside the Hussain Sagar lake.
As expected the excitement is high among the people. “Our friends are calling us from abroad to find out about the race. The road on which we have traveled so many times will now boast of the ‘E-Prix’ tag. It’s a dream come true,” said one of the enthusiasts.
Films stars too are excited about the event. Mahesh Babu congratulated minister K. Taraka Rama Rao for bringing the global event to the city.
The government is leaving no stone unturned in making the event successful. On Thursday, volunteers and staff visited the venue for a last-minute review. Foreign teams and their members were spotted fixing their cars and equipment at the pit spots near NTR Marg. A few participants also took a stroll on Tank Bund.
The highlight will be the introduction of the Gen3 Era Formula E car, which reportedly can touch over 300 km. The track testing is likely to happen on Friday.
Tickets are priced in the range of Rs 1,000- Rs.1.25 lakh. Depending upon the category, stands have been categorised as Premium Grand Stand, Ace Grand Stand, and Ace Lounge Package. Ace Lounge Package is the most expensive at Rs. 1.25 lakh.
Following the race in Hyderabad, the series will head to another new host city, Cape Town, on February 25th. The season 9 calendar features 16 races in 11 global locations.
