Telangana Police Department has 8.5 per cent women force
Hyderabad: The Telangana police department has 8.5 per cent women force, the Union Home Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. This is less than 11.75 percent, which is the actual strength of women police personnel at all India level, according to the data compiled by the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), as of January 2022. The total strength of Telangana police is around 90,000 personnel.
Andhra Pradesh (21.76%), Chandigarh (21.60%) and Bihar (21.21%) top the list of the states respectively in the women personnel strength category.
The Home Ministry also informed the house that they have issued advisories to all the State Governments to increase the representation of women police to 33% of the total strength.
The aim is that each police station should have at least 3 women Sub-Inspectors and 10 women police Constables, so that a women’s help desk is manned round the clock.
