Blast rocks Imphal, 8 wounded
Guwahati: At least eight persons including two women were critically wounded in a powerful explosion that ripped through a medical store in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur on Wednesday.
Police said that at least eight persons including two women came under the impact of explosion. They have been shifted to RIMS hospital in Imphal for treatment. Condition of two among those injured was stated to be very critical.
Voting in Imphal had already taken place in the first phase of elections, which was held on March 4. The senior police officers have reached the place of occurrence but were tight-lipped about the militant group suspected to have engineered the explosion.
Sources said that security agencies were tight-lipped about the groups involved in the blast. So far, no militant group has claimed the responsibility for the blast so far, security sources said.
The explosion took place in the backdrop of elections in the state that registered a high voter turnout on Wednesday of 86 per cent, the highest since 2009.
