Urban housing project to start at Jakkampudi

Work to start soon on the project in 265 acres.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDC) is finally heading to start urban housing project initiated by the state government in the city. Krishna district administration, on the orders of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, started measures to hand over land to the APTIDC. The government prestigiously started affordable urban housing scheme under NTR Housing Scheme in 265 acres land adjacent to the hilly terrain of Jakkampudi on April 14, 2016 on the eve of the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.

No works took place at the site for 10 months and the place had become a hub for anti-social elements. Many broken alcohol bottles as well as playing cards were found at the place and foundation stone laid by the Chief Minister had become dilapidated. Deccan Chronicle had published reports on this project. Krishna district collector Babu. A, Vijayawada municipal commissioner G. Veerapandian and APTIDC executive vice-chairman Ramnath Vela-mati organised a meeting on the clearance of land for the project and inspected the project site.

The collector requested the APTIDC to start the project works immediately as they are ready to hand over the land. He said that they will develop two freshwater ponds near the project site to solve water problem. Mr Babu asked the officials to complete the works as early as possible to allocate houses to the poor residing on the canal bunds in the city. Mr Ramnath said that the colony will be constructed with a walk-to-work concept creating basic infrastructure. Estimates for the project were in final stage and will soon head for project works, he said.
