KOCHI: The Kochi corporation, which is yet to fully implement its prestigious e-governance programme, has failed even in delivering the four basic services which were functional till recent. Of the 14 modules of the proposed e-governance programme, a long-drawn project of the civic body, only four services were functional like birth, death and marriage certificates and building permit.
For the last few days, the four online services are not available due to technical issues. As Tata Consultancy Services, the firm entrusted with providing technical assistance to the project has backed out, the issues could not be rectified. “Though the corporation has already handed over nearly Rs.5.50 crore to the TCS, it has failed to implement entire modules of e-governance programme. The crisis situation is due to the delay in completing the project as per the time schedule. The basic services like birth, death and marriage certificates which are available through online even in panchayats but in the Corporation,” alleged V. P. Chandran, CPM councillor.
