Telangana high court stalls release of 2 Tamil films

The bench ordered that status quo be maintained in respect of the release of two Tamil films.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday stalled the release of two Tamil films and all its dubbed versions across the country by giving directions to maintain status quo for the reasons that the producers of these films did not pay the dues to the producer of Baahubali-2 for the theatrical rights.

A division bench comprising Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther was dealing the petition of Shobu Yarlagadda, managing partner of M/s Arka Media Works and producer of Baahubali-2 seeking the court to stop the release of the films Ennai Nokki Paayum Thota starring Dhanush and Megha Aakash and Sindubaadh starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anjali which were produced by S.N. Rajarajan of M/s K. Productions and P. Madan of Escape Artists Motion Pictures of Chennai.

Mr Shobu’s contention was that the theatrical rights of Baahubali-2, was awarded to Rajarajan and Madan, who had agreed to pay Rs 28 crore for getting these rights.

However, they had paid only Rs 12.5 crore and entered into a loan agreement with Shobu for repaying the remaining Rs 15.5 crore, but did not even after the film was released two years ago.

The bench ordered that status quo be maintained in respect of the release of two Tamil films. The film Sindubaadh was slated for release on May 16. Even Ennai Nokki Paayum Thota too got the censor clearance and is due for release anytime during May 2019.
