Hyderabad: Fliers ask for longer parking at arrivals

Those who wait longer than 5 minutes fined.

Hyderabad: There is a growing demand for increasing the parking time, which is currently just five minutes, in front of the arrivals section. If vehicles halt more than five minutes, they are fined Rs 200.

Narrating his experience, Mr Vijay Gopal, a passenger said, “When I was returning from the airport, the vehicle stayed more than five minutes at the exit point and they charged the cab driver Rs 200 who added it to my bill.”

He said commercial buildings like airports should give free parking to passengers as per the GO 63 of the municipal administration department.

According to airport officials, the main aim of limiting the parking time for four-wheelers at the arrival point was to avoid too many vehicles on the ramp.

An airport official, who did not want to be identified said, “As a deterrent policy, penalty is levied, but it is not targeted at passengers. The footfalls have increased over time. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was designed to handle 12 million passengers in a financial year. It is presently handling 20 million passengers. Each day 60,000 passengers visit the airport.”

He said there was a security concern at the airport recently. “It is good if they plan their arrival according to the flight timing to avoid a jam because it will in turn inconvenience passengers themselves,” he said.

Airport officials said there were many changes happening and assured the citizens that they would consider their demands.
