Employees Are Partners in Government, We Will Do Good to Them: CM Jagan

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Friday that the decisions taken by the state Cabinet in the matters concerning the government employees will be implemented within 60 days.

“Employees are partners in government. We will do all what’s possible for them. We are a government that believes that people will be good only if the employees are good. Our intention is to see that there is no worry for you," the Chief Minister said.

The leaders of government employees unions and associations met the Chief Minister in the camp office and expressed their joy and thanks to the CM over the regularisation of contract employees and formulation of a Guaranteed Pension scheme in place of the Contributory Pension Scheme that had been introduced in 2004 at the national level.

AP NGOs association president Srinivasa Rao, secretary Siva Reddy and others thanked the CM for the Cabinet decision to implement the GPS, regularise the services of contract employees, constitute the 12th PRC and treat Vaidya Vidhana Parishad staff as government employees.

The government decisions are seen as part of an attempt to please the employees and their families in the run-up to the Assembly polls – a time when they exerted pressure on the government.

“The finance department has worked hard for the last two years to introduce a good pension scheme for you and solve other problems keeping in mind the welfare of your families for future generations also,” he said.

The CM said, “If an employee retires with a basic salary of ₹1 lakh, he would get a monthly pension of ₹50,000. Even at the age of 82, the retired employee should have good living standards. The GPS was envisaged keeping this in mind.”

“Every year, two DRs would be added to meet the growing inflation,” he said.

Speaking about the regularisation of contract employees, the CM said the government has also considered the Supreme Court views and judgments in this respect. “When the proposal first came to me, it was suggested that completion of ten years of service on the date of bifurcation should be taken as the yardstick for their regularisation. But, to help a majority of the contract employees, it was reduced to 5 years,” he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government would help the employees of the Vaidya Vidhana Parishad also as there was a wide difference in their salaries and post-retirement benefits compared to regular government employees.

“Hence, we will henceforth treat them as government employees. If you still feel there is more to be done, we are ready to do it as you are also stakeholders in the government. The government will stand by you,” the CM promised the employees.
