Tirupati: Hike in price of veggies worries common man
TIRUPATI: In just a week, the prices of vegetables have skyrocketed in Tirupati Rythu Bazar. The prices of tomato and chillies have skyrocketed. Tomato which was around Rs 25 a kg last week rose to Rs 80 a kg, due to poor supply from neighbouring states. Chillies and drumstick are costing around '60 a kg while, beans are costing Rs 40 a kg. “The hike in the rates of vegetables is burdening the common man. The monthly budget will witness a huge hike, if the same prices continue for another week,” said P. Geetha, a homemaker.
“We can say it is better to buy in Rythu Bazar as the cost in open market is much more. We are buying only few vegetables that can fit into our budget,” said M. Pratyusha, a lecturer. B. Sudha, a homemaker, said: “One should carry a bag full of money to purchase a bag full of veggies. It’s better to buy meat now.” These days. We don’t know why government will not take care of the prices.”
