Skill Olympics: 6 from Karnataka set to make splash in Abu Dhabi

Representing India under the Confectionary category pastry chef Mohit Dudeja has already made a mark in various international competitions.

Bengaluru: As Team India gears up to make a mark at the WorldSkills Competition, popularly known as the “Skill Olympics,” six youngsters from the state will wear the tricolour, vying for glory. The competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi, will see more than 1,200 competitors.

Marshal Lazar Wilson, a professionally qualified tool and die making engineer, is all set to compete in the Mechanical Engineering CAD (MCAD) category. The 22-year old, who holds an MCAD diploma from Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) in the city, was selected from 248 registered engineering students and graduates.

“Mastering the skill and working to build a stronger base on what one’s passion is, is the need of the hour and this makes me look forward to the Skill Olympics,” Marshal says.

Representing India under the Confectionary category, pastry chef Mohit Dudeja has already made a mark in various international competitions. “I was placed 19th at the Olympics held at UK last time which gave me a better insight into the competition norms. With the intensive training provided to me over the year, I am confident of performing my best this time,” says the 20-year old graduate from Lavonne Academy of Baking Science & Pastry Arts.

A Fashion & Apparel Design student at Army Institute of Fashion & Design (AIFD) in the city, 20-year old Nitish Kumar has been polishing his styling and designing skills to get to the top spot in the Visual Merchandising category. “Life has been motivating throughout throwing out a lot of opportunities at me, this selection being the latest,” he says.

Kiran Sudhakar, an ITI electrician, hailing from Karkala, made his path clear to the WorldSkills Competition by bagging the gold among competitive technocrats from across the nation. The 20-year old will represent India under Prototype Modelling category. Varun Hamunanth Gowda and Anant Kumar are the other two from the state who have made it to the final list of 28-member Indian contingent who will battle it out under the Mechatronics category. Wishing team India all success, MD & CEO of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Manish Kumar said, “Our competitors are great ambassadors for skills in India and will motivate many in the society to hone a skill and contribute positively towards nation building.”
