Hyderabad: The focus of political parties will now shift to the Lok Sabha elections scheduled in April next year, and the outcome of the December 7 state Assembly elections will define the course of politics over the next few months.
Based on the results, there is a likelihood of political polarisation in the state. Besides, it is expected that leaders from the losing parties will start defecting to the winning side. They are said to be waiting for the results which will be declared on December 11. Several leaders changed political parties due to several reasons in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
The Congress has said that the People’s Front will continue for the Lok Sabha elections as well. The TRS contested the elections without allying with any political party. The MIM gave it outside support.
The future relations between the TRS and the BJP is creating some interest. The BJP has already announced that if the TRS distances itself from the MIM, it could give it support to form government after the results.
The MIM has said that there is a chance of the TRS joining hands with the BJP after the Assembly elections. If that happens, the MIM will take a political decision with regard to its relations with the TRS.
The Congress is trying to get close to the MIM to encash on any opportunity. Congress leaders have said that if the MIM understands the TRS’ moves, they are ready to join hands with it.
Political circles expect other developments as well. Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan has annou-nced that his party will contest in Telangana state in the Lok Sabha elections. He has a soft corner for TRS president and caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and against Telugu Desam supremo and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the Congress as well.
The Jana Sena has no party cadre in Telangana except Mr Kalyan fans. If the Jana Sena contests on its own in TS, it will have no single strong seat.
The Left parties have joined hands with the Jana Sena in AP but in TS, the CPI and CPM have gone their different ways. In the Assembly elections, the CPI joined the People’s Front while the CPM formed the Bahujan Left Front (BLF) with other Left parties and organisations.
The chance of the Jana Sena and the CPM joining hands with the TRS cannot be ruled out. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao wants to play a key role in national politics after the Lok Sabha elections and for this, the TRS will have to win most of the seats in th state. To achieve this, the TRS may have no objection to ally with the Jana Sena and the CPM.
In Telangana state, the CPM has kept its distance from the Congress and the TRS but on the request of Mr Kalyan may change its view on the ruling party.
