Kozhikode ahead by whisker
Thrissur: With just one day to go for the curtain to come on the 58th State School Youth Festival, Kozhikode is leading leader board with 832 points closely followed in second position by Palakkad with 828 points. Malappuram with 815 points was in third position followed by Thrissur and Kannur in fourth position with 806 points each. Only three events are left on Wednesday, the final day of the youth festival.
On Tuesday, the programme committee has been able to considerably reduce the delay in the staging of events. Except on stage one and three, events on 18 stages on which programmes were conducted on Tuesday, were held as per schedule. A total of 50 events were held in the day.
The programme committee claimed that all results will be declared by 4 pm on Wednesday after hearing the higher appeals as well. The valedictory session will be held after that.
Women empowerment and tales of the heroines in lores were the dominant theme in the group dance event that went up to early Tuesday morning. Koodiyattom performace on the Sanghupushpam stage was the classic attraction in the day along with Kathakali group.
Son of a migrant labour and student of Nadavarambu Government Higher Secondary School, Afsal, was among the people who made it to the fest from humble backgrounds. He participated in the Urdu elocution competition. Ajmal who was the best actor last time made a brilliant performance this time too from the Peringod Higher Secondary School, Palakkad.
DPI K.V. Mohan Kumar on Tuesday said that grace mark was the main reason for the flurry of appeals at the youth festival and that the Education department would take a decision about it after the fest.
A notable performance on the penultimate day was that of Sreedev M, who got A grade in Mridangam by playing the one of the most difficult 'thalam' named Sangeerna Chappu in the High School Catergory. Sreedev, a ninth standard student of Don Bosco School, Irinjalakuda, has accompanied professional carnatic singers on more than 100 stages. He is trained by Jayakrishnan, a musician at All India Radio.
