Vijayawada: Railways for opinion vote on protest
VIJAYAWADA: Railway employees are participating in an opinion vote on the proposed indefinite nationwide strike their unions are planning to press various demands with the Centre.
The two largest federations of workers are holding the opinion polls. The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen organised the poll on Monday and Tuesday.
The All India Railwaymen Federation would have it on Thursday and Friday. The unions are demanding a hike in salaries, pension and filling up of vacancies.
BK Visweswara Rao, working committee member of NFIR, New Delhi, said they demanded “3.7” as fitment, but the 7th Central Pay Commission recommended “2.57”.
He also added that the CPC made retrograde recommendations by reducing the percentage of HRA. About 79,600 railway employees from SCR participated in the strike ballot.
