Karnataka: Seer backs govt notice on maths, says will help weed out black money

Defending the government for coming out with a public notice on the issue, he said its move had been misunderstood.

Mysuru: Head of the Progressive Maths’ Forum, Sri Nidumaamdi swami, on Friday continued to back the government’s move to take over mutts, religious centres and temples in the state, arguing it would help put a brake on the black money in circulation in mutts in the state.

“There is a lot of black money in mutts, where politicians have a lot of influence. Also with the mutts running engineering and medical colleges, this move is inevitable,” he maintained candidly.

The seer, who was speaking to reporters here added, “Wherever public money is utilised, such places must come under the scrutiny of the law. This rule has been temporarily postponed, but it has to be implemented by any government, which comes to power soon after the next assembly elections.”

Defending the government for coming out with a public notice on the issue, he said its move had been misunderstood. “It has only acted on the basis of a court order. Any government would have done it. The move is not to bring mutts into government custody, but to bring their administration under the Muzrai department. Sri Pejawar Seer and Sri Virendra Hegde have reacted emotionally. But when mutts need government land and its facilities, why cannot they accept its rules and regulations?” he asked.
