Footballer IM Vijayan rules out contesting polls
KOCHI: Footballer I.M. Vijayan has ruled out the possibility of him contesting the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress-backed independent. Putting an end to the speculations, he said he don't want to be known as a politician.
Stating that he enjoys good relations with politicians of all shades, he said he is not interested in becoming "a symbol" of a particular party.
The former Indian captain who had appeared in a dozen films, however, said Congress leaders had a few rounds of discussions.
He also said that at the moment he is satisfied with his job in Kerala police.
On postretirement plans, he said such things come after retirement.
The Congress was speculated to field Mr Vijayan as an independent candidate from Alathur to wrest the seat from the CPM.
