In a circular issued by the top cop recently, Datta has asked the police officers to discuss various issues of interest with special emphasis to narcotics and its bad effects, respect for women, help to aged people, being a good citizen and following traffic rules.
“It is important for the local police to maintain a good rapport with the student community in the area. To achieve this local police officers of all the ranks from commissioners to district superintendents and Police Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors in charge of police stations, shall visit schools and colleges in their respective jurisdiction regularly and interact with the students,” the circular stated.
To take necessary action the DG & IGP has instructed all Police Commissioners and SPs to prepare a monthly plan for their unit. “From Police Commissioners and SPs to Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, they should visit a minimum of four colleges/schools in their respective jurisdiction each month with effect from March 20,” Datta stated.
Further, he wants the discussion on outcome of visits to colleges and schools to be a part of the proceedings for the Monthly Crime Meetings in all Commissionerate and Districts.
He has also stressed that Range IGPs should bestow their personal attention on action being taken in their respective ranges in the matter. All officers are also instructed to inform the DG & IGP through a letter on action taken on this matter every month without fail.
