Posts to launch payment bank

Superintendent of Postal Department said separate staff will be recruited for the banks that will be managed by the department of posts.

Kurnool: India Post Payment banks' (IPPB) will start operating from post offices by next month, according to Superintendent of Postal Department K.V. Subba Rao.

The postal SP told media persons at his chamber here on Thursday that the banks within post offices will serve people across the district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced plans to open around 650 post payment banks across the country, he added.

Separate staff will be recruited for the banks that will be managed by the department of posts, he added. He said the postal department is operating the accounts of around 25 lakh customers in Kurnool division.

Another two lakh accounts are likely to be added within a month or two. Out of existing accounts, around 6.5 lakh are from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, he stated.

The postal SP said that the postal department will arrange to start locker facility very soon. The department has launched an online marketing drive recently, he added.

Postal department will extend services in various fields. The media that has been working to convey details to people, he commented. Through the online marketing, people will be able to get their services delivered at their doorsteps like other agencies, he said.

He pointed out that people who are depending on private sector are sometimes being cheated. Postal department, a central government sector is a trustworthy facility that has kept its promises, he added.

The postal SP urged people to use the services of the postal department and avail the benefits.
