Hyderabad: The General hospital of Secunderabad Cantonment Board at Bolaram, of which the SCB made a high-profile display by inviting the Defence minister, has now turned into a disappointment.
The 30-bed hospital, intended originally to run for 24 hours, is now functioning only for a few hours. There are sparse admissions, with 3 doctors working, and no space for patients from Gajwel, Shamirpet, Tumkunta village.
The Cantonment hospital (renamed Sardar Vallabhai Patel Hospital) at Bolarum, opened in June 2016, with 30 beds. Mr. N. Sri Ganesh, an SCB local , said in a representation to the SCB CEO, “Patients are unable to meet the doctors due to their non- availability, so the patients are forced to approach private clinics. Many travel as far as 50 kilometers from Gajwel, Shamirpet, Tumkunta village and due to non-availability of resident doctors, they either return or approach private clinics. Also there is no laboratory facility at the hospital.”
In response to the demands, the SCB CEO assured of increase in the head count of doctors and the number of beds.
Road closure
Meanwhile residents of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS), brought to the notice of the CEO the tremendous inconvenience being faced by lakhs of people due to the road closure.
C S Chandr-ashekar, Secretary FNEC-S, explained to the SCB CEO, “The Principal Director Defence Estates (Southern Command) through a letter dated 25th January 2016, that the MOD letter had not in fact been noted in the SCB, even though specific instructions to do so had been given by PDDE(SC) to all CEOs in Southern Command. On being directed to place the letter before the Board, the earlier CEO had committed to the PDDE (SC) that a Cantonment Board Resolution noting the MOD letter of 7th January 2015 would be passed and sent to PDDE(SC). However despite this clear commitment by the CEO, no Cantonment Board The resolution had in fact been passed even 14 months after the CEO’s commitment was given”.
