Geo-tagged home to track waste
Thiruvananthapuram: As part of its effort to ensure effective decentralised waste management at households, the city corporation has launched an extensive survey to geo-tag every residential structure under its jurisdiction.
The survey aims at identifying residential buildings and keep track of the mechanism used by each household for waste management.
According to officials, the civic body doesn’t have a mechanism to keep track of the service providers assisting residents in scientific management of kitchen bins.
It has constituted special teams for carrying out the survey, which the official said was over in two wards – Sasthama-ngalam and Vanchiyoor.
“There are complaints from residents regarding the kitchen bin maintenance. There are around 12 service providers assisting households. But we have no mechanism to keep track of them and ensure the quality of their service,” he said.
“We have introduced an app developed by Keltron. Now the resident will be able to give star ratings for these service providers. Based on that we will rate the providers.”
The survey team will visit each household and geo-tag every structure including shops, establishments, offices, houses and issue QR codes.
“Each time the service team visit, they will have to scan the QR code and sent an update on the maintenance of the bin which would be reviewed by the civic body,” said the official.
The civic body had outsourced the survey team to ensure timely completion.
“We are paying `15 per house for the survey team. They will be recording every detail including the type of house, the number of members, type and quantity of the waste generated daily,” he added.
Now the survey is progressing at Muttada, Medical College, Nanthe-ncode, Thampanoor and Pattom wards.
