Hyderabad: Gift or adopt trees for Rs 85 a tree
Hyderabad: A young man from Hyderabad city adopted and gifted 50 trees on the occasion of his best friend’s wedding instead of presenting his friend with a routine gift.
Thirty-two-year-old Gangapreet Singh quit his job to work for a sustainable rural initiative in Ladakh. He planted 200 trees on his birthday.
On May 1, when his two best friends tied the knot, Mr Singh adopted 50 trees through Grow-trees. These initiatives usually have online websites from where one can select different types of options. One can plant real trees in public lands to honour friends with eTreeCertificates/eTreeCards for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries. Whoever chooses to adopt trees has to pay Rs 85 per tree and as Mr Singh chose 50 trees, he paid Rs 4,250.
“The website gave me four options and I chose to adopt 50 trees in Rajasthan as this was near the Sariska tiger reserve and the friend I gifted it to loves tigers. SankalpTaru and Grow-Trees are two initiatives I trust to plant and adopt trees. Besides, Mother Nature’s blessings are the best you can gift any one,” Mr Singh said.
“A tree is much more than just its tangible outcome. It’s a gift for life that will remain as a symbol of the occasion. I can just imagine their happiness and expression when they actually visit their gifted forest grove in future,” said this nature enthusiast.
Locals are employed to take care of the plants and we can monitor the plants online as they keep posting the latest pictures and videos of them. I planted 200 trees in Barmer and my plants are doing fine, I keep regular track of them,” he concluded.
