Three-day curfew in Thoothukudi district
Thoothukudi: Thoothukudi district administration declared a three-day curfew from 6 pm on May 10 to 6pm on May 13. A statement issued by district revenue officer Dr M. Veerappan, who is also the district collector in-charge as collector N. Venkatesh is on leave, has stated that the curfew was promulgated under section 144 of Criminal Procedure code in view of the Veera Sakkadevi temple festival at Panchalankurichi, where violence erupted two years ago between two communities.
The district collector in-charge too added that no protests or public meetings would be allowed on these three days in the district. However this curfew order would not be applicable to Chief Minister’s function at Kovilpatti on May 11 and for private functions like marriages and funeral processions, clarified the collector.
