Kalaburagi: BJP netas beat a hasty retreat as villagers query need for bypoll
Kalaburagi: The BJP leaders who went for a campaign to a village in Chincholi Assembly constituency where the by-election is due on May 19, had to face an embarrassing situation as a large number of residents took them to task asking them about the necessity of a by-election in their constituency.
The residents of Mogha village who gheraoed the BJP leaders raised slogans against them forcing them to make a hasty retreat.
The BJP leaders led by former Minister V. Somanna, Kalaburagi South MLA Dattatreya Patil Revoor and former Minister Sunil Valyapure went to the village to campaign for BJP candidate Dr Avinash Jadhav.
A large number of villagers surrounded the vehicles and gheroed the leaders. They raised slogans against the BJP. Some of them questioned the leaders on why Dr Umesh Jadhav resigned from the Congress when he was elected twice by the people. “Dr Jadhav has given no valid reason for his resignation. Moroever after vacating his seat, he has fielded his son, who has little experience in politics. Such being the case what moral right do BJP leaders have to seek votes for their candidate,” they asked. The BJP leaders tried to pacify the crowd explaining Dr Jadhav had resigned in the interests of development of the constituency which had remained backward so far. However on realizing that the mood of the was not in their favour, the BJP leaders made a hasty retreat without canvassing for votes.
