Ooty: Annual feast at century old Cathedral
Ooty: The annual feast of the 122-year-old Sacred Heart Cathedral here, the headquarters of the Roman Catholics in the Nilgiris, was celebrated with usual spiritual fervor on Sunday along with inauguration of a meditation centre as 33 children received holy communion on the occasion.
The annual feast began on June 2 and was inaugurated by Fr.P.V.Immanuel in Ooty diocese who has completed 50 years of priesthood.
While quite a few spiritual events were held in the cathedral over the past one week, on Sunday the feast related to High Mass was celebrated by Dr.A.Amalraj, Bishop of the Ooty Diocese. In his sermon, he touched upon the significance of receiving holy communion and how children should prepare and conduct
themselves to live a Christian way of life and lend a helping hand with a caring heart for those in need, especially, the poor, sick and downtrodden. He also spoke about the importance of the annul feast of this cathedral and its contribution to serving the community.
Fr. Stannis, head priest of the Sacred Heart Cathedral also spoke on the solemn occasion.
