Over 3.5 lakh cases settled in Telangana's National Lok Adalat
Hyderabad: Over 3.5 lakh cases were settled throughout the state in the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, S. Goverdhan Reddy, member secretary of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, said on Saturday.
Of the total 3,50,110 that were settled through the courts, 3,04,533 cases, including criminal and civil, were pending. The courts also disposed of 25,577 pre-litigation cases.
Goverdhan Reddy said that Justice P. Naveen Rao, Chairman of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, had coordinated with all courts to ensure early settlement of cases in the Lok Adalat.
In the Telangana High Court, Justice Yethirajulu, former judge of the erstwhile AP High Court, and former judge Justice G. Sri Devi presided over the Lok Adalat benches and settled 218 cases and awarded ₹12 crores to 650 persons, said M. Santhi Vardhani, secretary of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
In the Debt Recovery Tribunal at Abids, 87 cases were settled involving claims of ₹162.76 crore and effective recovery of ₹72.84 crore was made.
In a statement, Rachakonda police said that based on the orders of the High Court they had compounded 2,765 cases under the Indian Penal Code during the Lok Adalat.
Principal district sessions judges C.H.K. Bhupathi, V. Bala Bhaskara Rao and B.R. Madhusudhan Rao dealt with the cases, said Rachakonda police commissioner.
