Karnataka CID to seek details of DySP MK Ganapati's interview from media
Bengaluru: Did the late deputy superintendent of police, departmental enquiry, Mangaluru M.K. Ganapati give a far more detailed interview; reportedly lasting for around 45 minutes to a local television channel in Madikeri, hours before he committed suicide on July 7 than the short video-clipping that has been widely telecast so far?
According to highly placed sources, the late officer had given a detailed narrative of his alleged harassment by a politician and several other senior police officers to the TV channel and what has been shown is reportedly an abridged and edited version of the interview, said an officer on condition of anonymity.
"The CID, which is investigating the unnatural death report (UDR) case of Ganapati will ask the media house for the original recording of the interview," said an officer on condition.
Why did he name Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George, ADGP, Intelligence A.M. Prasad and IGP, Lokayukta Pronab Mohanty in his TV interview?
Ganapati, who was reportedly depressed for various professional and personal reasons, was first indicted for police excesses as Inspector, Ullal during the infamous church attack cases in coastal Karnataka including Mangaluru in 2008.
"The incidents had taken place when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government headed by B.S. Yeddyurappa was in power. Ganapati was indicted and shifted out from Mangaluru on charges of police excesses. By the time the Justice Somashekhara Commission report on the church attack case was out in 2014, the State was under the Congress rule with K.J. George as the Home Minister.
Ganapati had allegedly approached him and the ADGP, Intelligence, Asit Mohan Prasad, who was earlier IGP, Western Range during the time of church attacks for being cleared of the charges but because the matter was before the Somashekhara Commission, both George and Prasad reportedly expressed their inability to help him. Ganapati may have taken this to heart.
His next brush; in Bengaluru, as inspector, Yeshwanthpur, was again marred by his killing a rowdy Prashanth in 2010. He was suspended pending an inquiry after Prashanth's mother filed a complaint of fake encounter.
In 2015 two complaints to investigate the alleged fake encounter were sent to the Lokayukta. The formal complaint, which was received by the Lokayukta was sent to the State Human Rights Commission for further inquiry and the other one, which was sent to the Lokayukta police was kept in the files because the previous complaint on the same subject was already sent to the SHRC and there cannot be a parallel inquiry by two agencies on the same subject.
