Planning institute for Andhra Pradesh capital
Vijayawada: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had prepared a blue print to set up planning institute in the capital city.
The proposed Amaravati Planning and Design Research Institute (APDRI) will make innovation an everyday habit and help create an active environment for citizens and start-up to contribute to the city planning through open data systems.
The institute will have the backing of renowned planning institutes from across the world besides financial support from the World Bank. Significantly, Centre for Livable Cities (CLC), Singapore, is extending technical expertise to APDRI.
According to a press release from CRDA, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the CRDA officials to take lessons from the failed cities across the globe while preparing plans to make Amaravati a sustainable and most-favoured livable city in the world.
According to CRDA, APDRI will strategise urban design guidelines to ensure safe pedestrian and cycle circulation, including the differently-abled and put a mechanism in place to actively monitor the happiness index of Amaravati through socio-economic surveys and planning.
APDRI would ready a new model for planning and the adoption of electric and autonomous vehicles in the capital city. Creating an active environment for citizens and startups to contribute to the city planning, through open-data systems or equivalent will be a biggest task for the APDRI.
The CRDA interacted with Future Catapult, London, Pema-ndu of Malaysia, Astana Genplan of Kazhakastan and the CLC of Singapore. Since AP has entered into an MoU with the Government of Singa-pore on development of the capital city, it has been decided to rope in the services of CLC in building the APDRI.
