Complete Kuthiran works: G Sudhakaran to Nitin Gadkari
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: PWD minister G Sudhakaran has written to union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and National Highway Authority of India chairman to resume the construction work of Kuthiran twin tunnel which had come to a standstill.
During a meeting held under the chairmanship of the minister earlier to evaluate the work, the NHAI authorities had assured that the work of Kuthiran tunnel would be completed by January 2019. However, there was a grave lapse on the part of NHAI and the contact company for failing to meet the deadline. Though the state government had approached the NHAI authorities several times there was no progress in the work. “I understand for the past one year there has been no construction work worth the name at the tunnel site,” the minister said.
Instead of scientifically reconstructing the area on top of the tunnel where mud and rock had caved in, sandbags are being dumped. He demanded stringent action against those who had committed grave lapses in the construction and maintenance of the tunnel.
The minister hoped the union minister and NHAI authorities will intervene in the matter and take necessary steps to complete the work in a time bound manner.
