50 held in crackdown against land grabbers in Nandyal

Kurnool: Cracking down on fraudsters involved in illegal land grabbing, Nandyal
district police, in collaboration with other government departments, have
booked 20 cases and arrested 50 people involved in these offenses.

The exponential rise in land value following the creation of the new district
has led to fraudsters fabricating documents, passbooks and electronic
records and grabbing lands within the Nandyal town limits. Absence of
corresponding survey numbers and field maps in government records have
emboldened them.

In June, Nandyal police busted a 10-member gang, including a retired revenue
divisional officer (RDO) and three village revenue officers (VROs). The gang
manipulated land records and created counterfeit property documents to
secure bank loans and claim government benefits such as Rythu Bharosa. The
gang primarily targeted unmapped agricultural lands in Changalamarri and
other mandals.

Another notable incident occurred in May. Nandyal police arrested an
eight-member gang that fabricated certificates related to legal heirs, death
certificates, and registration documents. The gang utilised the falsified
records to encroach lands in and around Nandyal town.

In May, police also arrested a person for forging the district collector's
signature to fabricate “No Objection Certificates” to illegally sell wakf
lands.

Following such cases, police have cracked down on land encroachers across
the district.

Superintendent of police K. Raghuveer Reddy said they are using
technological advancements in their investigations. He advised people to
take preventive measures and not fall into the trap set by fraudsters.
