Traffic curbs throw life out of gear in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Travelling between two points in the city — from I-Town to II-Town, has just becoming that must more difficult, thanks to the curbs put in place by the traffic police as part of Pushkaralu arrangements. Thousands of people travel from Ibrahimpatnam to Autonagar and other parts of city and they are facing a torrid time reaching their destination.
Already, vehicular movement has been barred from Kaleswara Rao Market to Bhavanipuram via Kanaka Durga temple since some months due to flyover works. The tunnel is only link to Bhavanipuram-Gollapudi and Ibrahimpatnam. People have been facing severe hardship in the last several days to enter the city due to newly-imposed traffic rules which are resulting in frequent jams.
The huge number of daily wage workers and employees entering the city is compounding the problem. Adding to the woes, the authorities have announced the entire area from Kaleswara Rao Market to Bhavanipuram to Gollapudi a vehicle-free zone. The officials of Krishna pushkaram and district administration have taken decision not to allow vehicles in the entire stretch till the end of the pushkaralu.
This means that people are forced to walk to cover the stretch between Kaleswara Rao Market and Durga temple. Ch Ravi, a private employee, wondered how he would cope with the situation and how would the residents be able to go about their daily lives and complete simple chores like buying essential commodities.
