Disabled girl raped by Madhya Pradesh shelter head
Bhopal: A physically challenged girl, an inmate of a shelter home here, was allegedly raped by the director of the facility, police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Aswini Sharma, was on Thursday, arrested, inspector general of police (law and order) Makrand Deoskar said. The shocking incident comes in the wake of exposure of rape of girls in shelter homes in Muzaffarpur in Bihar and Deori in Uttar Pradesh, sparking a national outcry.
The alleged victim, a resident of Dhar in Madhya Pradesh, identified the accused, police officials said. According to the police, the girl who had been staying in the shelter home here run with assistance grants from social justice department of Union government, for the last three years, was allegedly raped several times by the director of the home. She had fled the shelter home four months ago following this, police said. Her family members have been approaching the police here for action against the accused for the past four months.
