Madras High Court new Chief Justic to be sworn in on Sunday

According to sources, the Governor Banwarilal Purohit will administer the oath to her in a function on Sunday.

Chennai: The Bombay High Court acting Chief Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani will be sworn in as Chief Justice of Madras High court at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. According to sources, the Governor Banwarilal Purohit will administer the oath to her in a function on Sunday.

She was born on October 3, 1958 and obtained degree from the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in July 1982. Later, started practice in the High Court and in City Civil & Sessions Courts, Mumbai.

She joined the office of father, L.V. Kapse, advocate and conducted several trials on Criminal and Civil Side. She was appointed on the Panel of Defence lawyers in the Sessions Court, Mumbai and taught the “Law of Crimes” subject as part time professor in K.C. Law College from 1987 to 1993.

Subsequently, she was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor from February 1990, Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor on the Appellate side of the High Court of Bombay in November 1997. She successfully argued a number of confirmation cases, appeals, bail applications, revisions, and applications under various provisions of the law.She was elevated as a Judge of the Bombay High Court on June 26, 2001.

Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani had been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court in 2015 and 2017. In the recent reshuffle the Supreme Court collegium had recommended that Bombay High Court acting Chief Justice, Vijaya Kamalesh Tahilramani to be made as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court as Chief Justice Indira Banerjee had been elevated to the Supreme Court.
