Hyderabad sweats as power cut on warm nights

The last one week has seen a spike in power consumption in these areas due to the increase in heat and humidity

Hyderabad: Complaints of load-shedding and power outages have been registered in ECIL, Kesara, Boduppal, Nacharam and Yapral areas as residents on a large scale are starting air conditioners due to hot nights and high levels of humidity.

The last one week has seen a spike in power consumption in these areas due to the increase in heat and humidity.

There have been scanty rains in the evenings and late nights, leading to the increase in humidity levels. Sai Srinivas, a resident from Lake View Residency in Yapral, says, "We are having only one phase working at night and it took several complaints to get it rectified."

Similarly, in Boduppal, residents complained the appliances are not working properly due to load- shedding. There are complaints from these areas of frequent damage to appliances amid iterations of load shedding.

EISL resident Deepa Mahendra says, "Electric lines got loose due to wind movement in the monsoon season. Department staff carried out the work only selectively. They must do colony-wise tightening and removal of carbon deposits. Running after them with complaints is tiresome and time-consuming. Their responses are often not positive."

Due to the growth of vegetation on transformers and wires, there are frequent complaints of power tripping and bird deaths while the outages increase.

Electricity officials in Yapral said all the complaints are monitored by the zonal teams. "For services to colonies, there is a fixed procedure. Since the outskirts are having a lot of construction activities, there are builders illegally joining wires to the main line and carrying out the works. Often, this unregulated use of power for construction works o adds to the load on the transformers."
