Telangana Governor Calls for Countering Uncultured' Tag on Adivasis
Hyderabad: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday reiterated her concern and commitment for the overall development of adivasis, especially women.
She was speaking after inaugurating the "International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples celebrations, jointly organised by Aadhar Society, Adivasi Employees Welfare and Cultural Association (AEWCA), Adivasi Mahila Chaitanya Shakti (AMCS) and Adivasi Students Forum (ASF) at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan in Secunderabad.
She commended the organisers for creating a platform for adivasis to voice their problems, ensuring that their plights are heard and necessary measures are taken up by the relevant departments. The Governor called for countering labels of ‘uncultured’ and ‘downtrodden’ that are attached to them.
It should be noted that she has adopted six tribal villages in the remote Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nagar Kurnool and Adilabad districts as part of her social responsibility initiative. She personally visited those villages and assessed their education and health status. The assessment revealed that women and adolescent girls suffered from severe anemia with hemoglobin levels being a mere 4gm. In an immediate response, a nutritional support programme was initiated in collaboration with the NIN.
