Bengaluru: Sixty-two-year old Mavaji Ganesh, who was working as technical assistant with the Indian Army, was awarded life sentence and lodged in Mysore central prison in 2006.
While in prison Ganesh completed his SSLC and later got his BA degree. In addition, Ganesh claimed that he has become an expert in Yoga (with the help of teachers from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's The Art of Living), Astrology, Pranic Healing and Numerology.
Ganesh was one among the 79 life term prisoners across the state released prematurely for good conduct from Parapanna Agrahara prison on Sunday.
Ganesh, who broke down several times repenting for the precious years lost in the prison, said his day used to start at 4 am along with Yoga and meditation. As for future plans, he said he will work at his coffee estate at Kushalnagar.
Thirty-four-year old Vasanth was lodged in Ballari prison in 2004 after being convicted for murder. "It is very painful experience to be lodged inside the four walls of the prison. During my stay I have reformed and aim to be a film writer" Vasanth said.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Parameshwar said, "Those who repent for the crime they committed in a fit of rage should be forgiven and released prematurely for their good acts in the prison."
From 2015, we have released 1334 prisoners prematurely, he pointed out.
