Ganesh immersion concludes after BJP protest in Kakinada

KAKINADA: Amid high drama and tension, Nagara Ganesh Utsava Samithi and Kakinada city leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party succeeded in immersing Ganesh idols at “Vinayaka Sagar” – the Salt Creek in Jagannaickpur.

When Kakinada Municipal Corporation and revenue officials did not allow them to proceed to the area, BJP leaders Y. Malakondaiah, Gatti Satyanarayana, Utsava Samithi honorary president Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju and other activists staged protests by sitting on the road. Ramana Raju lied down on the road holding a three-feet Ganesh idol on his chest.

Meanwhile, revenue and police officials held discussions with higher officials who gave permission for immersion of idols in the middle of Salt Creek. But Ramana Raju threatened to jump into creek to immerse the idol. Finally, police took them to the spot demanded by them between the two bridges in Jagannaickpur.

BJP leader Malakondaiah said this is a victory for the people of Kakinada city.

Meanwhile, Ganesh immersion went on peacefully at the three places that had been chosen for immersion of idols in Kakinada city. Kakinada MLA Kurasala Kannababu, Kakinada district superintendent of police M. Ravindranath Babu and others visited NTR Beach and participated in the immersion programme.

Rajamahendravaram, Razole, Amalapuram, Tuni and other places too witnessed immersion processions with huge Ganesh idols before immersion.
