Rain throws normal life out of gear in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Heavy rains on Friday afternoon slowed down traffic movement in the city and stalled the Ganesh immersion celebrations while in the rest of the state normal life was affected and crops damaged at various places.
The city saw a sunny day suddenly turn cloudy after which the rain began. Rajendranagar in the city recorded the highest 86.3 mm rainfall while for the state it was 91.6 mm in Naykal of Sangareddy district.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtiyal, Rajanna Sircilla districts. Yellow alert has been sounded for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupala-pally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.
For Hyderabad, the IMD said the sky would remain generally cloudy for the next 48 hours, with moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers at times with intense spells.
There were heavy rains in several parts of undivided Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nizamabad, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts. Rivulets and streams were overflowing and roads were damaged in several villages. Rains spoiled the enthusiasm of youth during the immersion of Ganesh idols in north Telangana districts.
Copious inflows reached the reservoirs in Godavari and Krishna river basins. Jurala received 2.09 lakh cusecs, Narayanapur 75,000 cusecs, Sripada Yellampally 49,503, and Sriramsagar 39,850 cusecs.
