Road, which washed away in floods, yet to be rebuilt
Thrissur: It has been more than 50 days after a potion of the bund road at Arattupuzha lying parallel to Karuvannur River here got washed away on August 18.
Till now the civic body has not initiated the process of issuing the tender for rebuilding the washed away portion of the bund road and some damaged portions of the supporting wall of road.
Due to the release of huge amount of water from both Chimmini and Peechi Dams, this portion of the bund road had slowing started falling apart on August 17 and was completely washed way in the flood water the next day.
Some of the local people had then come on record stating that the authorities did not take any action to prevent the breach of the bund road even though they had plenty of time to do so. Instead the focus was only on shifting the people to safer places.
Activist Sijo of Vallachira said that even after MLA C. Raveendranath allotted '35 lakh from his MLA fund on August 29 for rebuilding the bund road, the file regarding the technical sanction (TS) of project is still lying in the Collectorate without approval for the officials of the Vallachira Panchayat to call for bids. The unexpected bund breach while the flood waters were slowly receding had led to water entering several thousands of houses in the south-west part of the district including those near Thrissur Town.
