TS cops roll up their sleeves for polls, tight vigil along border
Adilabad: Adilabad district administration and police have started measures in the district from Monday afternoon for the effective implementation of code of conduct for the Assembly elections to be held on November 30 in the state.
As the state government considers the erstwhile Adilabad district as a key area which shares the longest border with Maharashtra, the police have set up seven check posts at different places along the border to check illegal activities including transportation of liquor, cash, ganja and gifts into the state to be distributed during the poll campaign in the state.
In coordination with officials of Maharashtra, the district administration formed special teams with the officials of police, revenue, forest, excise, forest and RTO departments, who keep a round-the-clock vigil at check posts.
Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial and Nirmal districts share borders with Maharashtra and there is connectivity to Chattisgarh through Chennur in Mancherial district. Police are also keeping a close watch on the ferry points of the Godavari, Pranahitha and Penganga rivers and also on boatmen who operate country boats, which are used to transport material, luggage and essential commodities.
Adilabad SP Uday Kumar Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that they had seized '20.8 lakh in cash from a person and '4.50 lakh from another person without valid proof in an RTC bus on his way to Hyderabad from Adilabad on Saturday midnight and the seized cash was handed over to the I-T officials for further verification.
Adilabad one-town police had registered a case under Section 171 (E) and 420 two days ago against Congress leader Kandi Srinivas Reddy for distributing pressure cookers to lure women voters in Adilabad town.
