South Central Railways makes it easy for travellers in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Railway passengers suffered with even vendors on trains not accepting Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on Wednesday.
“I am not able to buy even a bottle,” said a passenger on Lokmanya Tilak Express, going from Vizag to Mumbai via Secunderabad.
Neither shops nor food joints inside stations or outside accepted these notes.
SCR general manager Ravindra Gupta convened an emergency meeting of senior officials and asked them to ensure that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were accepted on November 10 and 11 in compliance with the ministry’s directions.
A cap will be put in the case of waitlisted tickets in first AC and second AC classes at the passenger reservation system counters during the three-day period. He advised that officers and inspectors be deputed at major stations and on trains.
He said any bulk or high value ticket bookings would be monitored and the refund process would be through banks. In order to tide over the shortage of cash at the counters, “Ticket Deposit Receipts” may be issued in lieu of cash refunds.
