RJD too opposes CAB, says bid to divide society

The issue was raised during the RJD’s national executive meeting and is also likely to come up for discussion on Tuesday.

Patna: The RJD and other Opposition parties expressed strong criticism to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The issue was raised during the RJD’s national executive meeting and is also likely to come up for discussion on Tuesday.

RJD insiders said that the party is working on a strategy to approach other like-minded political parties in order to build a consensus and oppose the issue.

“Our stand on the issue has been clear but we are surprised to see those who were earlier opposing the move have now gone silent. They should understand the design of the BJP,” RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said.

While addressing RJD leaders during the party’s national executive meeting Tejashwi Yadav said that “Instead of resolving the core issues like unemployment and economic crisis, the NDA is trying

to divide the society. It’s our responsibility to save our nation and constitution”.

Other top leaders who attended the RJD meet in Patna also hinted that the party would oppose the Bill “inside and outside the Parliament”.

Speaking on the issue, former Union minister and senior RJD leader Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav said, “The BJP is trying to divide the society in the name of the NRC and the CAB. After discussing the issue with our leadership, we will decide our future action”.

Opposition parties have been opposing the move ever since BJP adopted an aggressive approach to the implementation of NRC in the state.

Top BJP leaders including Union minister Giriraj Singh have been in favour of the implementation of the NRC and have also been pitching strongly for the CAB.

Reacting strongly against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, former Bihar Chief Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi in a tweet said that, “The Citizenship Amendment Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha is against the constitution. Our party has decided to oppose the Bill. We strongly feel that the bill will divide society”.
