ORR Phase-II to end water woes on outskirts by March
Hyderabad: Having missed the deadline twice in 2023, the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase-II project that is intended to provide drinking water and boost the existing supply in the area located between the GHMC border and ORR, is likely to be completed by March according to water board officials heading the project, T.V. Sridhar and Ravi Kumar.
As per the initial estimates, ORR Phase II was designed to benefit over two lakh households. However, dozens of residential colonies and gated communities have mushrooming in those areas in the last two years, increasing the number of those who will benefit.
The agreement was signed by HMWS&SB in January 2022.
The ORR Phase-II project has been taken up with a budget of Rs 1,200 crore. A 2,865-km pipeline network is being laid, while construction of storage reservoirs with 137 million litres per day capacity is under progress.
Bairagiguda, Gandhmaguda and parts of Rajendranagar are yet to get drinking water supply. Most of those living there are dependent on borewell water. Shamirpet, Boduppal and Medchal are already being supplied by ORR Phase II.
ORR Phase II:
Probable completion: March 2024
Households to benefit: 2 lakh-plus
Budget: Rs 1,200 crore
Pipeline network: 2,865 km
Storage reservoirs: 75 of 137 MLD capacity
