Andhra Pradesh government may not let go of ex-officials
VIJAYAWADA: Reports of the state government deciding in principle to discontinue the services of the retiring bureaucrats on completion of their tenure may be floating around the corridors of the Secretariat, but a senior bureaucrat has affirmed that the government has been utilising the services of some of the already retired bureaucrats in various capacities.
Following the dearth of the bureaucrats, the government has entrusted the responsibility of some corporations to a few retired bureaucrats to match their expertise and experience, he said. So far, 8 to 9 retired bureaucrats are serving the government in various capacities, the senior bureaucrat added. Former bureaucrats and police officers like Mr Balasubrahmanyam, Mr S.P. Tucker, Mr Umapathi and Mr Lakshminarayana have been serving in various capacities with different organisations.
Elaborating this further, a retired IAS officer said that there is no such hard and fast rule, which states that former bureaucrats cannot be engaged. “Besides, all retired bureaucrats may not be interested to work further. But I am astonished to note that such rumours are going on in the Secretariat,” he went on to explain.
The senior IAS officer further stated that the government has been offering postings to the former IAS officers in liquor price monitoring committee and environment assessment committees too. “From where will the government bring so many experienced officers to head various inquiry commissions? Perhaps a few people have been intentionally propagating such false news,” he added.
