Hyderabad: Airports Authority of India cuts police tower to size'
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police has reduced the size of the upcoming super structure of Command Control Center at Banjara Hills, in order to enable it to get clearance from the Airports Authority of India. It was originally plan-ned with 24 storeys that would now be limited to 20. The police also got a high court stay on the construction vacated.
State police DGP and other senior officials visited the spot and conducted a pooja as the construction works started on Friday. Earlier, when the police applied for the No Objection Certificate (NOC), the AAI said if the proposed 90 metres-tall towers is allowed, it would obstruct air traffic. It advised the police department to revise the building plans. The Banjara Hills are-a, where the building is being constructed, is in the funnel area of the Shamshabad airport and Begumpet airport.
“We revised the original plan to get clearance from AAI. Now, the building would have 20 stories,” said police commissioner M. Mahe-nder Reddy. He added that the building will be functional in 21 months, as per the agreement with the developer. Last year, the high court had stayed the construction after rece-iving a petition from the landowners who claim-ed they owned five acres of the proposed land. Later, the court vacated the stay.
The state government proposed that the command and control centre is designed in ways as to match the best of such facilities anywhere in the world, with an estimated cost of Rs 300crore to upgrade policing and make Hyderabad a global city. The integrated centre will have state of the art command and control facilities. The centre is now being built in the seven acre plot on Road No 12, Banjara Hills.
