Road projects inaugurated ahead of election code
Alappuzha: PWD Minister G. Sudhakaran inaugurated four mega road projects in North Kerala via video-conferencing from Alappuzha collectorate on Sunday, a few hours before the model code of conduct came into place.
The coastal highway will be constructed with modern facilities, including cycle path, he said.
“The state government is constructing 651-km coastal highway and the first phase will be the 15-km -long stretch from Padinjarekara to Unn-iyal in Malappuram. The '6,500-crore project will boost the tourism and transport sectors in the state,” he said.
“The road with a width of 14 metres with cycle path is funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board(KIIFB). The first phase will be completed at a cost of '52.74 crore,” he said.
Technical and administrative sanctions have been given to the project. The tender was awarded to the Ooral-unkal labour contracting society and it would be completed in 18 months. The road with busbays and waiting sheds will be constructed in a time-bound manner where land acquisition is not needed. It will benefit the residents of Thannoor, Thavanoor and Thiroor Assembly constituencies, he said.
He also inaugurated three other roads through video-conferencing. The Kolichal- Cherupuzha road in Kasaragod district as part as the proposed hill highway will be constructed at a cost of '77.38 crore.
The others are Mananthavadi- Pandrakalam road at an estimated cost of '16 crore and Kattamballi-kadavu- Chapparak-adavu- Thadikadavu road costing '66 crore in Kannur and Wayand districts respectively.
