Accused had it easy in 2013, CID to probe again
BENGALURU: The CID officials investigating the second PU chemistry question paper leak case are now gathering information from police officials who had earlier investigated the paper leak cases involving the suspected kingpin and retired head master, Shivakumar.
Sources in the CID said that the exercise would help them in the investigations. It is also learnt that a constable, who was earlier working in a police station in Tumakuru, has revealed that Shivakumar, who was arrested in connection with a similar case in 2013, was not made the prime accused in the case.
An official said the constable was questioned on Saturday by senior officials, who are supervising the probe. “The constable revealed that though there was clinching evidences against Shivakumar in 2013 case, he was not treated as the prime accused. Second PU Biology question paper was made available for Rs 10,000 a day before the exams. Following a tip off, the police had arrested one Mallesh, near a bar on Tumakuru ring road. He had revealed that Shivakumar was behind it and Shivakumar and the other accused were also arrested,” the official said.
However, it is alleged that there was pressure from a minister on the police to not reveal the matter to media, as it would dent the image of the government. “The constable said that the investigation was done in a hurry and a chargesheet was also filed. In the chargesheet, Mallesh was reportedly shown as the prime accused, while Shivakumar was named as accused number two,” the official added. The official said the constable had given complete information on the network of Shivakumar and it would help the ongoing probe.
