Parents can apply online for 1.26 lakh RTE seats in pvt schools

For 2015-16, State government released Rs 125 crore for admissions conducted under this quota.

Chennai: In a major revamp, the department of school education has made provision for online application to 25 per cent seats available under Right to Education (RTE) act in private schools from coming academic year.

As per the act, at least 25 per cent of seats at entry level classes (LKG and class 1) in private schools need to be reserved for children hailing from economically and socially disadvantaged sections.

“For the 2017-18 academic year there are 1,26,262 seats available in 9,000 private schools under this quota,” the department has said in a release on Monday.

The details of the number of seats available in each school under this quota will be released in www.dge.tn.gov.in website soon. Parents can apply for the seats on the same website from April 20 to May 18.

“Parents can upload their applications from their respective places. They will receive the SMS after successful registration of the applications,” the release said. People can use the government e-seva centres, CEO and DEO offices to upload their applications.

If a school receives more applications under this quota then the students will be selected through lots. District level education officials will be present at the time of selection.

However, orphans, HIV affected students, transgenders and children of scavengers and differently abled will be given priority and be admitted before lots. For 2015-16, State government released Rs 125 crore for admissions conducted under this quota.
