Security beefed up in Agency areas of East Godavari district for polls
Rajahmundry: In the aftermath of killing of BJP legislator Bhima Mandavi along with four security personnel by the Maoists at Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, police has beefed up security arrangements at polling stations located in Chintur and Rampachodavaram agency areas in East Godavari to avoid any further untoward incidents.
As several polling stations are set up in both the Agency areas in the district, the police is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the voters come out from their homes and reach the polling stations to cast their votes without facing any trouble.
The police authorities say that on the eve of polling, already high alert has been sounded and a large number of security personnel have been posted to keep guard to the polling stations. The security personnel are carrying out flag marches at regular intervals to instil confidence among the voters to take part in the elections.
Rampachodavaram ASP Rahuldev Singh said, “We have provided all necessary security arrangements at all the polling stations located in vulnerable areas in Rampachodavaram Agency. We appeal to the voters to take part in the elections freely without any fear.”
In Chintur Agency area also, the police has provided security at all the vulnerable polling stations to help voters reach them and cast their vote.
Following the Dantewada episode, the police has intensified their combing operation along the common border area with AP, TS, Chhattisgarh and Odisha to keep a check on infiltration of Maoists into AP to disturb the polling.
Police has advised political leaders, polling officers and the general public to be careful and not to venture into remote Agency areas without informing the local police to provide security to them.
