Kerala: Recognised guides to get state ID card
Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the rape and murder of a Latvian tourist near Kovalam, the state government has chalked out a slew of safety measures such as deploying more tourism police personnel, launching a mobile app to get connected to the police easily and keeping off habitual offenders from tourism spots.
Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran who chaired a meeting of top police and tourism department officials here on Thursday said that the safety measures at tourism spots would be implemented on a time-bound basis.
The meeting also decided to give new easily identifiable uniforms to the tourism police as well as to introduce tourist wardens on the lines of traffic wardens. Identity cards will be issued to recognised guides and vendors. State police chief Loknath Behera and IG Thiruvananthapuram-range Manoj Abraham among others participated.
